21st Annual Conference of IASIA Opens in Rabat

‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ Rabat – The 21st annual conference of the International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA) opened, Monday in Rabat, under the sign: “The implementation and promotion of the principles of effective governance, to leave no one, nor any place aside”, with the participation of more than 65 countries from around the world.

Placed under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, this event co-organized from July 25 to 29 by the Mohammed V University of Rabat (UM5), the IASIA, the Rabat City Council, United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG Africa) and its African Academy of Local Government (ALGA) highlights the 11 principles of effective governance for sustainable development, designed by the members of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Public Administration (UN-CEPA), approved and adopted by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in 2018.

This event, whose opening session was marked in particular by the presence of Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Abdellatif Miraoui, is meant to contribute to the enshrining of an effective governance based on the values and principles of non-discrimination, participation, subsidiarity and intergenerational equity, as a guarantee of the well-being of people, development of territories and sustainability of future generations.

On this occasion, president of the City Council of Rabat, Asmae Rhlalou, stressed that the promotion of good governance remains at the center of the priorities of the Kingdom of Morocco.

“The commune of Rabat has endeavored to enshrine the principle of accountability and bring the administration closer to citizens,” she said, emphasizing the digitization of all services provided to citizens through the electronic management platform system.

“This is an opportunity to propose alternative solutions to social, economic and political problems of the African continent, in the wake of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,” said president of the UM5, Mohammed Rhachi.

For her part, IASIA chair, Dong Qing, noted that despite the pandemic context, the public administration community has been able to exchange best practices, promote excellence within it and contribute to the effective delivery of quality public services, adding that the Association is establishing a platform for members to share new ideas, opinions and trends.

“This is an ideal opportunity for all experts, practitioners and students of public administration from around the world to promote governance and sustainable development,” she said, expressing her gratitude for the organization of this conference.
