Royal Speech Marks ‘New Stage’ in Gender Equality Consolidation, Says CNDH President

‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌​ ​ ‌​ ​ Rabat – HM King Mohammed VI’s call for the operationalization of constitutional institutions concerned with family and women’s rights is “a new step in the consolidation of equality between Moroccans men and women,” said National Human Rights Council (CNDH) President Amina Bouayach on Saturday.

In a statement to MAP, Bouayach stressed that the speech addressed by the Sovereign to the Nation on the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of His accession to the throne of His glorious ancestors is carrying a message of consecration of equality, highlighting the call of HM the King who asked that the devices and national legislation dedicated to the promotion of these rights be updated.

Similarly, CNDH President noted that the Sovereign has stressed that since His accession to the throne to promote the status of women, offering all opportunities for development and giving it the place it rightfully deserves.

In this regard, she recalled that among the major reforms undertaken under His leadership are the promulgation of the Family Law and the adoption of the Constitution of 2011 which enshrines the equality of men and women in rights and obligations and, therefore, establishes the principle of parity as an objective that the State must seek to achieve.

Additionally, Bouayach further recalled the revision of several laws to consolidate the rights of women and the family while the Family Code represents a real leap forward to enable women to occupy the place that is theirs and bring their efficient contribution to all areas of development.
