7th ‘Dakhla Downwind Challenge’ Kicks Off

‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌​ ​ ‌​ ​ Dahkla – The 7th edition of “Dakhla Downwind Challenge”, a sporting event which consists in reaching Lagouira by kitesurfing from Dakhla, kicked off on Sunday.

Placed under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, this sporting event is initiated by the Moroccan Association of Kitesurfing (AMKS), under the aegis of the Royal Moroccan Sailing Federation (FRMV), in partnership with the wilaya of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, the Regional Council and the Agency for the Promotion and Economic and Social Development of the Southern Provinces of the Kingdom (APDS).

This event, which runs until August 20, is part of the festivities marking the celebration of the 43rd anniversary of the recovery of the province of Oued Eddahab. It aims to create a new dynamic in Dakhla, a city known for its assets and tourism potential as a favorite destination for kitesurfing enthusiasts and professionals.

In a statement to MAP, AMKS president Soufiane Hamaini stressed that Dakhla Downwind Challenge is “a unique event of its kind” as it offers kitesurfers a ride along the pristine beaches of the Moroccan coastline.

Participants will discover the breathtaking landscapes of the Moroccan desert and live an exceptional adventure, he said.

For her part, Elie Jelinkova from the Czech Republic said she was proud of her participation in this competition for the first time, noting that Dakhla has adequate natural conditions for the practice of this sport.

In addition to Moroccan participants, this sporting event brings together nearly 30 riders, from several countries, including France, Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic, the United States of America and Israel.
