Port Traffic Down 1.1% by End of July

Casablanca – Port traffic reached a volume of 52.81 million tonnes by the end of July, 2022, down by 1.1% compared to the same period last year, according to the National Ports Agency (ANP).

With regard to trade flows, imports amounted to 34.89 million tonnes (+6.6%), while exports recorded a decrease of 19.3%, with a volume of 15.36 million tonnes, the ANP noted in a release.

Jorf Lasfar accounted for 38.9% of overall traffic in the first seven months of 2022, as 20.53 million tonnes of goods transited through this port, followed by the port of Casablanca, which accounted for 28.9% of overall traffic (15.24 million tonnes of goods).

By mode of packaging, dry bulk cargo represents the largest share (58.9%, 31.1 million tonnes), while bulk liquid cargo accounts for 22.3% (11.76 mln tonnes), the ANP said.

During the first seven months of 2022, container activity totaled 757,977 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit), down 3.6% compared with the same period in 2021. 

Road traffic, which represents 1.1% of the activity, has increased by 16.1% to the end of July 2022 with a volume of 594,950 tonnes.
