In an article posted on Thursday, Jeune Afrique stresses that “in order to advance its line on the Sahara in Europe, Morocco now favors the bilateral strategy.”
In this wake, the magazine highlights Spain’s “turnaround” on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, noting that Madrid considers, since March 2022, the autonomy plan proposed by the Kingdom as the most serious basis for a settlement of this conflict.
Jeune Afrique also recalls the Netherlands’ “alignment”, last May 11, on the Moroccan position on the occasion of the inter-ministerial summit of the global coalition against Daech, which was held the same day in Marrakech.
“By opting for direct state-to-state relations, the Kingdom has managed to rally to its cause two important European countries,” explains the publication.
In Eastern Europe, “the wind has shifted in favor of Morocco to the change of geopolitical paradigms,” noting that “previously closer to Algiers because of their links with the USSR, several states have changed their position and strengthened their relations with the Kingdom in recent years.”
