Gov’t Adopts Draft Decree on Protection of Workers against Risks of Benzene

Rabat – The Council of Government, convened Thursday under the chairmanship of the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, adopted the draft decree 2.21.502, amending and supplementing Decree 2.08.528 (May 21, 2009), on the protection of workers against risks due to benzene and substances with a benzene content of over 1% by volume.

Introduced by the Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Labor and Skills, Younes Sekkouri, this text provides for legal provisions setting the powers of the commission in charge of giving an opinion on requests to appoint laboratories to control the concentration of benzene in ambient air in the workplace and defines the obligations of these laboratories, said the Minister Delegate for Relations with Parliament, Government Spokesman, Mustapha Baitas, at a press briefing held after the Weekly Cabinet meeting.

The draft decree also includes provisions on the composition of the commission and the modalities of its operation, as well as the documents required for laboratory appointment or renewal, he explained.
