Introduced by the Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, Younes Sekkouri, this text comes under the provisions of Law No. 65-99 on the Labor Code, including Article 287, and complies with the provisions of Law No. 55.19 on the simplification of procedures and administrative formalities, said the Minister Delegate for Relations with Parliament, Government Spokesman, Mustapha Baitas, at a press briefing held after the Weekly Cabinet meeting.
The draft decree repeals decree No. 2-98-975, issued on January 23, 2001, on the protection of workers exposed to asbestos dust, as amended and supplemented.
This project includes legal provisions defining the scope and types of asbestos, preventive measures to protect workers against risks resulting from the use of asbestos or products containing it and provisions establishing the prerogatives of the commission in charge of issuing an opinion on requests to appoint laboratories to measure the concentration levels of asbestos dust in the air at workplaces, in addition to provisions that must be respected by the laboratories concerned, he added.
This draft also sets out the measures that the employer must adopt to ensure the protection of employees against the risks resulting from the use of asbestos, as well as the actions he must undertake to inform and train employees exposed to asbestos dust.
