Republic of Korea Supports Local Specialty Cheese Makers Northern Morocco

Tangier – A ceremony was held on Friday in the commune of Hjar Nhal (prefecture of Tangier-Assilah) to hand over cheese manufacturing equipment donated by the Republic of Korea to the benefit of the Achakkar, Development and Culture Association (AADC).

The ceremony, held by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), in partnership with the Association for the Promotion of Moroccan-Korean Cooperation (AMACO), was held at the headquarters of the Association in the village of Ain Zaitoune.

The event was attended by Korea’s Ambassador to Morocco, Chung Keeyong, the KOICA resident representative, Jeong Yongwoo, the president of AMACO, Mohamed Moussa, the president of AADC, Siham Assif, the representative of the Wilaya of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region and representatives of local cooperatives and associations.

The donation includes new equipment to manufacture local specialty cheese (beldi cheese), namely a vacuum machine, a negative refrigerated cabinet and a refrigerated tank. The donation targets 15 direct beneficiaries, as well as other indirect beneficiaries (women and men) who will now be able to produce their local products with full confidence.

Part of strengthening the Morocco-Korea relations, this initiative aims to promote the economic and social inclusion of women and men from rural areas, by providing them with an income-generating project.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Chung emphasized the important role of KOICA and AMACO in consolidating bilateral relations between the Republic of Korea and the Kingdom of Morocco.

“This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and the Kingdom of Morocco. For sixty years, the two countries have continued to develop and strengthen their ties of friendship and cooperation in various fields,” said the ambassador.

For his part, Mr. Moussa stressed that this donation is part of the annual plan of activities of AMACO under 2022. This donation aims to help rural women in the region of Tangier to create an income-generating project to improve their living conditions, he added.

According to Ms. Assif, this donation will improve the living conditions of direct and indirect beneficiaries.

The ceremony was marked by the signing of a donation certificate by the presidents of Koica, AMACO and AADC.
