Citrus Exports Post Record 766,500 Tonnes in 2021-2022 Season (Ministry)

Rabat – Citrus exports have posted a record volume of 766,500 tonnes during the 2021-2022 season, i.e. a 40% increase compared to the previous campaign, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests.

This performance concerned all types of citrus exported, said the ministry in a statement, adding exports of small fruits reached 629,300 tonnes during this season (from September 1, 2021, to August 31, 2022), up 40% compared to the previous campaign.

Regarding oranges, exports have increased by 42% compared to the previous campaign. This growth has concerned all destinations, with a particularly notable increase in the U.S. market (x3) and the African market (x2.2).

The national production of citrus, all types combined, during this campaign (2021-2022) has reached 2.67 million tons, an increase of 14% compared to the previous campaign (2020-2021), the ministry added.

85% of citrus production is centered in four regions namely Rabat-Salé-Kenitra with 700,000 tonnes, Souss-Massa (672,000 tonnes), the Oriental (460,000 tonnes) and Beni Mellal-Khénifra (436,000 tonnes).
