Middle East: Morocco’s Role in Peace Efforts Highlighted in Montreal

Montreal – The role of Morocco in the efforts to revive the peace process between Palestinians and Israelis was highlighted at a conference held in Montreal.

Speaking at this meeting initiated Tuesday by the Canadian Sephardi Federation, in partnership with the Jewish Public Library and the Cummings Center, the consul general of the Kingdom in the North American country, Mhamed Ifriquine stressed that Morocco continues to believe that the two-state solution, living side by side, in peace, is still achievable.

The diplomat recalled the message sent last year by HM King Mohammed VI to the chairman of the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, on the occasion of the international day of solidarity with the Palestinian people.

In this message, the Sovereign stressed that “Regardless of the profound changes and developments that have taken place in the Middle East in recent years, I am convinced that the Palestinian question is the key to a permanent and comprehensive solution in the Middle East region. Such a solution should be based on enabling all peoples of the region to live in security, peace and harmony, within the framework of international legitimacy, and in accordance with the principle of the two-state solution, which is agreed upon by the international community”.

The conference was marked by the participation of former Israeli minister, Shlomo Ben Ami, president of the Canadian Sephardi Federation, Avraham Elarar, the consul general of Israel, Paul Hirschon, as well as representatives of the Jewish Library and the Cumming Center.

Ben Ami emphasized the pioneering role of Morocco in the dynamics of peace and stability in the Middle East.

Morocco, which has always faced “wisely the various challenges”, is able to “contribute greatly” to the search for a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian problems, he said.
