Inclusive Schools: 2022-2023 Academic Year Kicks Off

Salé – The 2022-2023 Academic year kicked off on Thursday in Morocco’s inclusive schools. The official launch ceremony took place in Salé’s Mohamed Rihani school in the presence of Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa, and Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration and Family, Aawatif Hayar.

The ceremony was held in parallel with the launch of the national program of inclusive education, developed by the Ministry of Solidarity to ensure the right to education and training for children with disabilities.

A total of 23,000 children benefit from this program in application of the High Orientations of HM King Mohammed VI who pays special attention to people with disabilities, and of the measures contained in the 2021-2026 governmental program, which has allocated 500 million dirhams to associations working in the field of disability.

In a statement to the press, Benmoussa stressed that children with disabilities are entitled to a school year adapted to their needs.

Inclusive schools represent 20% of the global school offer at the national level, he said, noting that the inclusive school requires the training of teachers as well as a special teaching methodology for the integration of these children into regular classrooms.

For her part, Hayar praised the important role played by civil society associations to ensure access to education for children with disabilities through partnerships with the ministry, noting that the goal of the government is to ensure quality schooling for all pupils with disabilities.
