Essaouira: Moroccan Jewish Community Celebrates Hiloula of Holy Rabbi Haïm Pinto

Essaouira – Several hundred members of the Moroccan Jewish community, from all over the world, met Thursday evening in Essaouira to celebrate the Hiloula of the Holy Rabbi Haïm Pinto, a religious moussem held annually in the city.

This unmissable spiritual event is an opportunity for warm reunions and moving meetings between pilgrims and members of the Moroccan community of the Jewish faith throughout the world, to celebrate this landmark event in an atmosphere marked by the seal of communion, conviviality, brotherhood and recollection.

This gathering also provides an ideal space for pilgrims to reconnect with the Motherland, Morocco, so dear to this community established in different countries of the world, and to reiterate their unwavering commitment to the Kingdom and its sacredness and constant values.

Thus, a religious ceremony was held at the cemetery of Rabbi Haïm Pinto, in the presence of the governor of the province, Adil El Maliki, representatives of local authorities, heads of external services, local elected officials and other personalities.

On this occasion, members of the community brandished portraits of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and national flags, an eloquent expression of their indelible and unchanging attachment to the Glorious Alaouite Throne and the Motherland.

In a statement to “M24”, MAP TV channel of continuous information, Rabbi David Pinto expressed his joy and great pride to be back again this year “in our hometown, Essaouira, after two years of absence due to restrictions related to the Covid-19 pandemic”.

For his part, El Maliki said that this pilgrimage, which is an opportunity for the faithful of the Jewish faith to reconnect with their Moroccan roots, takes on a special importance this year since the festivities that accompany this event have been suspended due to restrictions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic during the years 2020 and 2021.

The presence today of a strong delegation of nearly 1,500 pilgrims, coming from all over the world, unequivocally testifies to the renewed attachment of the Moroccan community of the Jewish faith to its roots and delivers a message of loyalty and deep attachment to the Glorious Alaouite Throne and the august person of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the governor stressed.
