Morocco Co-Organizes High-Level UN Event on Transforming Education, Sustainable Development

New York (United Nations) – On the sidelines of the 77th UN General Assembly, held September 13-27 in New York, Morocco co-organized on Saturday a high-level event on the transformation of the education system and sustainable development.

Launched in partnership with Côte d’Ivoire and the UNESCO Institutes of Lifelong Learning, this meeting, held in the framework of the high-level summit on the transformation of education (16-19 today), focused on solutions and ways to transform education systems in favor of inclusive sustainable development.

In his speech, Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa, stressed that the public school is at the heart of the new development model adopted in 2021 under the high orientations of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, noting that this innovative model places the citizen at the center of all development choices.

In this context, he said Morocco’s ambition for 2035 is to ensure that everyone can take full control of their future and reach their potential, and live with dignity in an open, diverse, fair and equitable society, specifying that Morocco is a country that creates value and develops its potential in a sustainable, shared and responsible manner.

“Only a profound transformation of our education system can enable our country to achieve development goals such as civic fulfillment, social cohesion, economic growth and territorial inclusion,” Benmoussa explained, adding that key objectives to promote quality and provide equal opportunities in school include, notably, achieving compulsory education and improving the quality of learning.

This high-level event was marked by the participation of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, chaired by HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa.
