Powerful Earthquake Hits Mexico on Exact Same Day as in 1985, 2017

Mexico – A 7.6 magnitude earthquake shook Mexico on Monday, according to reports from the United States Geological Survey (USGS), on the exact same day as two other deadly earthquakes in 1985 and 2017.

The seismic focus was located at a depth of 10 kilometers and the epicenter was 42 kilometers north-northwest of La Placita de Morelos, Michoacán.

The earthquake was also felt strongly in Mexico City as Mexico’s National Seismologist recorded it with a magnitude 7.4. USGS had initially recorded the movement at 7.5.

The Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami alert warning of potentially dangerous waves hitting Mexico immediately, reports CNN meteorologist Brandon Miller.

On the same day in 1985, Mexico was hit by a 8.0 magnitude earthquake killing at least 5,000 people. In 2017, 370 people died in a 7.1 magnitude earthquake who took place on the exact same day.

Earlier this Monday there was a national earthquake drill, which included the activation of the seismic alert in the nation’s capital, just as part of the exercise. Then the movement occurred, just as it happened in 2017.
