Total WB Active Portfolio in Morocco Amounts to $780Mln – Regional Director

Rabat – The total active portfolio of the World Bank (WB) in agriculture in Morocco amounts to $780 million, said WB Director for the Maghreb and Malta Jesko Hentschel on Tuesday in Rabat.

“Including the project to modernize the Great Hydraulic which closes in late 2022, the total active portfolio of the World Bank amounts to 780 million dollars,” Hentschel told MAP, following a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forestry, Mohamed Sadiki.

The official noted that the World Bank is one of the first donors to support the new Génération Green strategy through two programs for nearly MAD 4 billion, citing the support program to Generation Green and that of resilience and sustainability of irrigation.

This is a first program that aims to strengthen rural entrepreneurship of young people, modernize marketing channels and promote exports and a second program to strengthen and improve the quality of irrigation services, he said.

Highlighting the quality of long-term partnership with the Kingdom, Hentschel explained that the idea is to review the support that the World Bank carries particularly for Moroccan agriculture especially that the projects financed by the WB are closely linked to the development strategy of the agricultural sector.

This bilateral meeting was followed by a workshop to capitalize on the cooperation between the two parties to analyze the achievements and key lessons of this cooperation, as well as to identify prospects for future cooperation.
