“The Kingdom of Morocco reaffirms its conviction that multilateralism is based primarily on collective interaction and renewed approaches to compromise, as emphasized by HM King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, in His address to the 59th session of the UN General Assembly,” Akhannouch said in the statement on behalf of Morocco before the 77th session of the General Assembly.
After recalling that the world is facing, three years after the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, a multitude of intractable challenges and successive crises, Akhannouch said that “what hinders the relevant management of these crises is not our inability to identify the aspects and interactions, but rather the lack of a real and active political will”.
“The multilateral system is currently going through a structural crisis that is expressed on three interrelated levels,” he added, referring to a crisis of values with the regression of the principle of cooperation and solidarity on which the UN was founded; the divisions that undermine international institutions; as well as the fragmentation of multilateral action within the framework of narrow alliances of circumstance that do not fit the complex nature of the crises of the world today.
