UN: Morocco to Continue to Show Firmness in its Fight against Human Trafficking (Akhannouch)

United Nations (New York) – Morocco will continue to show firmness in its efforts to fight human trafficking networks, stressed Tuesday in New York, Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch.

In his speech on behalf of Morocco at the general debate of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (13-27 September), Akhannouch said that these networks represent a “serious threat” to the sovereignty and stability of countries, as well as to the security of people.

He also noted that Morocco will continue to strengthen the dynamics of comprehensive management, solidarity and humanity of the migration issue in the framework of the national strategy of immigration and asylum, launched by HM King Mohammed VI in 2013.

Noting the direct impact of global security crises on migratory movements in the world, the Head of Government said that in line with the insightful vision of HM the King, Morocco remains committed to the foundations of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration adopted in Marrakech in December 2018.

Referring to peacekeeping operations, which remain “one of the important achievements” of the international organization and reflect its ability to federate capabilities, Akhannouch stressed the need to work towards their development and immunization in order to ensure the safety of those deployed there.

Akhannouch recalled, in this context, that HM King Mohammed VI gave His high instructions, on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of the establishment of the Royal Armed Forces, for the setting up of a Moroccan multidisciplinary peacekeeping center, with the mission to train and support national and foreign skills, especially on the African continent and this, in partnership with the United Nations and some friendly countries, in order to promote the principles of international security and peace.
