Taking part in the launch of the Cork Container Terminal (CCT), Mahraoui had exchanges with the Irish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Simon Coveney, and the Minister of Public Expenditure and Reform, Michael McGrath, as well as the Minister of State for Transport, Hildegarde Naughton.
Speaking at the event, Coveney noted that with this massive infrastructure developed on nearly 39 hectares, Ireland will be able to have a presence on more of the world’s routes, noting that the new deepwater facility at Ringaskiddy can accommodate some of the world’s largest container ships.
In this sense, he welcomed the presence of Mahraoui at this event, mentioning the possibility of creating a maritime link with Tangier Med, “the largest port in the Mediterranean Sea. With the new terminal in the port of Cork, “we now have the capacity to do this,” said the head of Irish diplomacy.
This is an infrastructure that will facilitate international interconnection, he added, saying it is a boon to the Irish economy that exports 80% of its production.
In addition, the Moroccan diplomat also met in this city in southwestern Ireland, with the authorities of the Port of Cork, members and senators of the Irish Parliament and the business community, as well as local representatives.
