Africa Design Organization Sees Light in Morocco

Rabat – The first Pan African design organization, dubbed the Africa Design Organization (ADO), has just been created in Rabat.

Inspired by the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI who advocates for South/South cooperation as an effective mechanism for the inclusive and sustainable development of Africa for Africa, the organization aims to turn Morocco into a continental “design hub” and promote the Made in Morocco and Made in Africa, the ADO said in a statement.

Initiated and co-founded by Moroccan designer and architect Hicham Lahlou, the ADO also aims to promote the teaching of Design in universities and to encourage the creation of schools and academies in this field, which promotes economic growth and the youth.

Design is part of the vision of the New Development Model of the Kingdom of Morocco initiated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the statement added.

“The ADO, which already includes co-founders from Morocco and elsewhere, will be the voice and standard-bearer of design in Africa and worldwide, with bilateral and multilateral diplomacy as essential bases.”

“It will be a powerful tool of soft power and parallel diplomacy, which are natural and essential allies of official diplomacy.”

The ADO will be a member of the prestigious World Design Organization and it will have its headquarters in Morocco, Europe and North America, before expanding to many African countries.
