This agreement was initialed, on Wednesday in Vienna on the sidelines of the 66th Ordinary Session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), by the Acting Director of AMSSNuR, Mounji Zniber, and the President of the NRC, Christopher T. Hansson, said a statement from AMSSNuR.
The MOU covers the exchange of technical information and cooperation on nuclear safety matters, including substantive reports prepared to support AMSSNuR or NRC organizational decisions and policies, documents related to licensing procedures, safety decisions, and significant environmental decisions regarding nuclear facilities, and documents of AMSSNuR or NRC procedures for licensing and regulating nuclear facilities and radioactive materials.
It also covers the exchange of information within the scope of nuclear security research that may affect public safety, reports on operational experience at nuclear facilities and/or experiments with radioactive materials, regulatory and oversight procedures related to the security and safety of nuclear facilities and radioactive materials, safeguards implementation and environmental impact assessment of nuclear facilities, and early notification of accidents and emerging technical issues of direct interest to AMSSNuR or the NRC.
At the end of the signing ceremony, the two parties agreed to strengthen cooperation, through information exchange, sharing of experience and best practices, and the organization of scientific visits and expert missions, the statement concluded.
