Gov’t Council Adopts Draft Decree-Law Extending by Six Months Mandate of National Press Council Members

Rabat – The Council of Government, convened Thursday under the chairmanship of Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch, adopted the draft decree-law No. 2.22.770 extending by six months the mandate of members of the National Press Council (French acronym CNP).

Presented by the Secretary General of the Government, Mohamed Hajoui, on behalf of the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, the text enacts provisions extending by six months the mandate of CNP members, thereby allowing the Council to carry out the missions entrusted to it under the Code of Press and Publication and the texts taken for its implementation, explained Government Spokesman Mustapha Baitas during a press briefing held after the weekly Cabinet meeting.

Among these missions, Baitas cited the granting of the press card under Article 2 of the law establishing the CNP, Law 89.13 on the status of professional journalists and Decree No. 2.19.121 setting the terms of issuance and renewal of the professional press card, and other missions relating to the preservation of principles including the charter of ethics of the press, he added.
