Tangier: Police Arrest Colombian for Alleged Links with Drug Trafficking Network by Light Aircraft

Rabat – The Tangier judicial police arrested, on Saturday, on the basis of precise information provided by the services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), a Colombian national for alleged links with an international drug trafficking network via air circuits.

Aged 41, the Colombian was arrested while hiding in a house in the medina of Tangier, said the National Police (DGSN) in a statement.

Field investigations and technical expertise have revealed the alleged involvement of the suspect in the piloting of a small aircraft that was discovered on September 20 after an emergency landing in the rural town of Hajar Al Nahl on the outskirts of Tangier, said the DGSN, noting that this aircraft would be used for international trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances.

A judicial investigation has been opened against the suspect under the supervision of the competent prosecutor to unravel its possible links with international drug trafficking networks and find all participants in this criminal activity and their associates, in Morocco and abroad, in addition to identifying all the circuits of trafficking in question, including air routes.
