The Moroccan delegation was received during the official ceremony by the Khalifa General of the Tidjanes family, Serigne Babacar Sy Mansour, in his residence in Tivaouane, in the presence of his special representative, Mansour Sy Dabakh and members of his family.
On this occasion, the Ambassador of HM the King conveyed to the Khalifa General of Tidjanes the greetings and wishes of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, on this blessed occasion, stressing that the two brotherly peoples celebrate this event together, according to customs and ancestral traditions.
The Moroccan diplomat has, on the other hand, highlighted the high solicitude and benevolence of His Majesty the King, Amir Al-Mouminine, surrounds the Sufi family, in general, and the Maliki family, in particular.
Speaking at the ceremony, Sheikh Mansour Sy Dabakh, highlighted the spiritual and fraternal ties between the Glorious Alawite Throne and the Tidjian Malekite family in Tivaouane, since the time of the founder of the Tidjane brotherhood, El Hadj Malick Sy (1855-1922), reiterating the feelings of fidelity and loyalty to His Majesty and imploring the Almighty to assist the Sovereign and grant him health, tranquility and long life.
During this ceremony held in a large hall in Tivaouane, the Senegalese Minister of Interior, Mr. Antoine Felix Abdoulaye Diome, has, in an address, welcomed the distinguished Moroccan presence at the celebrations of Mawlid Annaboui, while welcoming the exceptional historical relations existing between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal sister.
The interventions made during this ceremony have highlighted the special place that the Kingdom of Morocco occupies with the people of the city of Tivaouane and the spiritual and cultural relations that bind them to the Cherifian Kingdom.
During this ceremony, prayers were also raised to preserve His Majesty King Mohammed VI and to assist the Sovereign in realizing the aspirations of the Islamic Ummah to unity, progress and prosperity.
Tiwaawan, an important home of the Tidjane brotherhood, is a Mecca for the celebration of Aid Al-Mawlid Annabawi, which has been celebrated there since 1902 at the initiative of a great figure of the Tidianya, El Hadji Malick Sy.
The celebration of this year’s event was attended by a Senegalese ministerial delegation led by the Minister of Interior, Antoine Felix Abdoulaye Diome, who came to represent the Head of State, Macky Sall, as well as delegations representing African and European countries and representatives of more than 20 embassies accredited in Dakar and thousands of faithful from different regions of Senegal.
The Maouloud (or Gamou in Senegal), according to the annual tradition of the Tidjani Tariqa, brings together tens of thousands of faithful from different regions of Senegal and other countries of West Africa and the world. The commemoration is celebrated in the pure tradition of the Tariqa, in the numerous mosques and mausoleums of the religious city of Tiwaawan.
The dean of the family, El Hadj Malick Sy (1855-1922) was one of the first to organize the Gamou in Senegal.
Throughout his life, he devoted himself as a tireless servant of Islam and of the Tariqa Tidjania which he contributed to spread throughout Senegal and beyond, through his numerous “muqaddams” (great disciples) that he trained and sent to several West African countries to preach and promote the Sufi way founded by Sheikh Sidi Ahmed Tijani (1150-1230 AH).
