Marrakech: Generalization of Social Protection, Prelude to Building Society Where Social and Territorial Justice Prevails (Gov’t Chief)

Marrakech – The generalization of social protection is an essential lever for development and a prelude to building a society where social and territorial justice prevails, said Monday in Marrakech, head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch.

In a speech read on his behalf by Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, Younes Sekkouri, at the opening of the World Social Security Forum (WSSF), Akhannouch stressed the full support of the government for the implementation of this Royal project, explaining that this Royal Vision has been realized through a range of social programs, notably the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH), the Medical Assistance Scheme, the program to reduce territorial and social disparities, the support programs for children’s schooling such as “Tayssir”, and the support program for widows, which have contributed to the reduction of poverty rates, precariousness and school dropout, and have enabled a large group of citizens to access basic services.

In order to consolidate these achievements, HM the King launched, in 2020, the generalization of social protection with a specific agenda and integrated pillars, such as the expansion of compulsory health insurance to all citizens by the end of 2022, which will allow 22 million additional beneficiaries to access this service that covers the costs of care, drugs and hospitalization, noted the head of Government.

Among these pillars, Akhannouch cited the generalization of family allowances, which benefit nearly seven million children from poor families or in precarious situations and three million families without children of school age, the broadening of the basis of membership in pension schemes, through incorporating about five million people in the workforce who currently have no coverage related to retirement, as well as the generation of compensation on the loss of employment to the benefit of people with a stable job.

Akhannouch also highlighted the total mobilization of the Executive for the success of this large-scale project, by giving priority to the implementation and generalization of social protection in its governmental program, while respecting the royal agenda that has set the end of 2022 as the date for the implementation of the unified system of compulsory basic health insurance for the benefit of all Moroccan families, regardless of their social or economic situation.
