Interior Minister Highlights Main Programs, Funds Benefiting Rural World

Rabat – Minister of Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, gave Tuesday in the House of Representatives a presentation on the main programs and funds that his department is working on their implementation for the development of the rural world.

Presenting the outline of the sectoral budget of the Ministry of Interior for the year 2023 before the Committee of the Interior, Local Authorities, Housing and Urban Policy in the House of Representatives, he said that in consideration of the urgent need to support the rural world, especially in terms of its supply of drinking water, the Ministry of Interior has earmarked until the end of September a sum of 219 million dirhams representing the share of local authorities from the collection of the VAT.

And to cope with the effects of drought in some regions and in response to the pressing expectations of the population, the Minister reported an operational emergency program since last May and which consists of providing the precious liquid to rural population in need via tankers and water storage tanks, indicating that this program has targeted about 2.7 million people residing in 8,260 rural centers and douars based in 891 rural communes under 67 prefectures and provinces.

Referring to the low rainfall in 2022 compared to the years 2020 and 2021, Laftit said that an assessment of the situation was conducted nationally by his department, in coordination with the Ministry of Equipment and Water as well as distribution boards and provincial authorities, listing the cities and centers affected by water stress and may benefit from urgent measures to ensure their supply of drinking water.
