During a meeting with Minister of Economic Integration, Small Business, Employment and Skills, Younes Sekkouri, on the sidelines of the proceedings of the International Labour Office Governing Body, the official highlighted the deep reforms initiated by Morocco for the development of its legal system related to employment, as well as structural reforms, especially the project of social protection generalization.
Houngbo, who took office last October, said that the field of social protection is one of the priorities of the ILO and its current mandate, expressing his willingness to cooperate with Morocco in this area.
Welcoming the quality of relations between ILO and the Kingdom, the official reiterated the willingness to further diversify and raise them to new horizons.
He also praised the work done by Morocco in the framework of the ILO both during its presidency of the International Labour Conference in 2021, as part of its efforts as coordinator of the African Group and its contribution to making the voice of the continent heard on the international scene.
For his part, Sekkouri made a presentation on the experience of social dialogue in Morocco, institutionalized by the agreement of April 2022, reviewing some of the reforms planned in this framework, including the bill on the right to strike, the amendment of the Labour Code and the activation of the investment charter.
He also expressed the willingness of Morocco to develop cooperation with the organization in the areas of generalization of social protection, the establishment of decent work guarantees and the resolution of problems of the informal sector.
Sekkouri expressed the readiness of the Kingdom to host the Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour, scheduled for 2025.
