“This is an initiative that supports the usual awareness campaign on energy efficiency launched by the Ministry in coordination with its relevant agencies,” Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Leila Benali told M24, MAP’s TV channel.
The Minister, who was accompanied by the ONEE Director General Abderrahim El Hafidi, said the campaign aims to reward the consumer and encourage him to optimize its consumption of electricity and thus reduce its bill.
There will be a comparison between consumption in November-December 2022 compared to the same months of 2021, resulting in a bonus in 2023 to consumers who have saved the most in terms of energy, the minister said.
Eventually, the campaign hopes to save nearly 5% of energy or “even more,” said Benali, adding that “these 5% correspond to the monthly consumption of a city the size of Tangier.”
According to data provided by ONEE, Morocco’s consumption during the months of November and December 2021 was 5.5 TW/h. An assumption of a 5% reduction in consumption will result in savings of nearly 275 GW/h in November-December.
