In addition to boosting bilateral Moroccan-British military cooperation, this exercise aims primarily the exchange of experience and expertise in operational skills, the strengthening of combat capabilities in urban areas and the consolidation of technical, operational and procedural interoperability between participating units, the statement noted.
Taking place in a desert environment with demanding climatic conditions, the activities of this exercise concern, in particular, the sharing of expertise between the two participating forces in urban combat, sniping, search and destruction of improvised explosive devices and operational first aid.
“Jbel Sahara” is a combined exercise organized since 1989 by the Royal Armed Forces and the British Armed Forces. This year’s edition will bring together detachments from the Royal Gendarmerie, the 1st and 2nd Parachute Infantry Brigades, the 1st Battalion of the Atlas Hunters and their counterparts belonging to the 2nd Parachute Regiment of the 16th British Air Assault Brigade.
