In a statement to MAP after his talks, on the sidelines of the Climate Conference (COP 27), with Teresa Ribera Rodrigues, the third Vice President of the Spanish government and Minister of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, Baraka said that “the meeting was important for several considerations, notably that there is the firm will of HM King Mohammed VI and the Head of the Spanish government Pedro Sanchez for a new approach to bilateral relations between the two countries.”
He added that these talks, which took place in the presence of the deputy ambassador of Morocco in Egypt, Abderrazak Dinar, were also an opportunity to discuss the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries in the field of water, stressing that it was agreed to hold a meeting in Rabat in the coming weeks to develop a roadmap to consolidate bilateral relations in this filed.
The Minister noted that this meeting was also an opportunity to discuss issues related mainly to the problem of water and drought and joint measures that can be taken in this area, as well as the opportunity to exchange experiences and work on the development of a roadmap that would allow Morocco and Spain to adapt to the common challenges posed by climate change.
Baraka said he also mentioned the strengthening of cooperation in the field of desalination of water, wastewater treatment and the development of scientific research in the field of climate change, especially with regard to the rational management of water resources.
This session of the Climate Summit (November 6-18) is marked by the participation of an official Moroccan delegation composed of ministers and representatives of several ministerial sectors, the Association of Regions of Morocco, the Moroccan Association of Presidents of Communal Councils and a number of leaders of territorial councils, as well as experts, youth and actors in the field of climate.
