9th ‘Visa for Music’ Festival Opens in Rabat

Rabat – The 9th edition of the festival and professional market of music from Africa and the Middle East “Visa for Music” opened Wednesday evening at the Mohammed V National Theater in Rabat, with the program of concerts, conferences and exhibitions honoring the richness of African musical heritage.

The opening night was marked by three concerts of artists from Morocco and Africa, namely Fanie Fayar, Demi Portion and Farid Ghannam.

Speaking on this occasion, Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid said that this edition has been long awaited after an unprecedented health crisis, noting that this festival is a link between Moroccan, African and Middle Eastern music. This festival, rich in color and culture, brings its piece to the edifice of the vast programming designed for the celebration of Rabat as the African capital of culture, he said, noting that “Visa for Music” is a large professional market for the development of cultural and creative industries in Africa through creating opportunities for partnerships and establishing new strong links between artists and professionals.

For his part, founding director of the “Visa for Music” festival, Brahim El Mazned said that this 9th edition welcomes participants from over 70 countries, including more than 30 from the African continent, adding that the objective of this event is to contribute to the structuring of the music industry in Africa and the Middle East, as well as its global influence.

Placed under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, this major international event dedicated to music from Africa and the Middle East is held this year as part of the celebration of “Rabat African Capital of Culture”.

Created in 2014, Visa For Music, the first professional market and festival of music from Africa and the Middle East, is a unique event that brings together the actors of the Moroccan and international music industry.
