117th Executive Council of World Tourism Organization Kicks Off in Marrakech

Marrakech – The 117th session of the Executive Council of the World Tourism Organization (WTO) kicked off, on Thursday in Marrakech, with the participation of some 250 representatives of the WTO Member States, including 16 ministers and senior officials in charge of tourism, representatives of public or private structures concerned, destination management bodies, as well as specialized investors.

The agenda of this working meeting includes, in particular, the review and discussion of current trends in international tourism, the financial situation of the organization, a report on human resources, a proposal for the creation of a study group to “rethink a tourism of the future”, a report on the status of the legal and operational framework for the establishment of regional and thematic offices of WTO and the election of the president and the two vice presidents of the Executive Council for 2023.

Speaking on this occasion, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (WTO), Zurab Pololikashvili, emphasized the strong partnership between Morocco and this specialized agency of the United Nations, noting that the Kingdom is an active member within the WTO.

While highlighting the enormous tourist assets of the Kingdom, able to place it in the circle of major global tourist destinations, Pololikashvili noted that Morocco has committed major investments including at the level of tourist units, which make tourism a very attractive sector for Moroccan and foreign investors.

In this regard, he expressed the commitment of the organization in favor of the promotion of the tourism sector in Africa, a continent which enjoys enormous natural and heritage potential.
