World Cup-2022: Victory against Belgium, key to Qualification for Round of 16 (Regragui)

Doha – Head coach of the Moroccan national football team Walid Regragui said on Sunday in Doha that the historic victory of the Moroccan team against its Belgian counterpart by two goals to 0, in the 2nd day of group F of the World Cup Qatar-2022, is the key to qualification for the round of 16.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Walid Regragui stressed that the good performance of his players allowed the national team to win, which represents the key to secure the ticket to the next round.

He added that the players have made a great game against one of the best teams in the world, which has footballers playing in the biggest leagues, calling his colts to repeat the same performance in the next game against Canada.

In this regard, Walid Regragui insisted that the national team must show a good level and combativeness against Canada to ensure the qualification for the eighth finals.

He added that the Moroccan squad played a game of high level and won thanks to the tactical discipline it showed, noting that the team was released from the pressure after a first half marked by a great rigor.

The national coach noted that the Atlas Lions have gleaned three valuable points despite the constraints related to injuries among players, including goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, Achraf Hakimi and Noussair Mazraoui.

He was also pleased to offer Morocco its first victory in a World Cup since 1998, saying that his players proudly defend the national colors and are determined to honor the national soccer at this global event.

In addition, the national coach praised the great support of the Moroccan fans, who encouraged the Atlas Lions until the last minute.

Morocco will play its third match Thursday at the Al Thumama stadium in Doha against Canada, while Belgium will face Croatia on the same day.
