Le Monde: Regragui Banking on Players’ Qualities to Reach World Cup’s Round of 16

Paris – Morocco Coach Walid Regragui is banking on the qualities of his players, a solid defense and an incisive projection capacity, to reach the round of 16 of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, writes French daily Le Monde.

In an article, the French daily notes that in three months, Walid Regragui has barely had time to get the pulse of his team, noting that the recent winner of the African Champions League with Wydad Casablanca has hit the ground running, while not renouncing the legacy of Franco-Bosnian coach Vahid Halilhodžić.

A World Cup victory, even if it is the country’s first since 1998, will not satisfy the ambitious 47-year-old, according to the paper, which notes that four days after upsetting Belgium 2-0 and plunging the Red Devils into crisis, the Moroccan team will face already-eliminated Canada on Thursday with ambitions of qualifying for the next round.

The Atlas Lions know they can put an end to a 36-year wait, the newspaper stressed.

The French media quoted Senegal Coach Aliou Cissen, who said that Walid Regragui’s men are “a source of inspiration” for African soccer and must validate their ticket to the knockout stage of the competition.
