Speaking at the opening of the constituent session of this Forum, Mayara said the “great ambition” for the institutionalization of this parliamentary economic meeting comes with the objective of turning it into a center of joint reflection for the future.
This objective goes hand-in-hand with providing the necessary financial and human resources to enable it to follow the dynamics of development in the region and promote an advanced regional model of economic cooperation and exchange of experiences at the legislative, commercial and financial levels.
According to Mayara, this forum is “a historic moment to give strong signals of the determination of the two regions to build new economic bridges and development to release energies and take advantage of the great opportunities that are available in an approach based on efficiency and the win-win principle.”
The upper house’s hosting of this meeting emanates from its belief in the importance of the strategic partnership between the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions, and in Morocco’s willingness, under the wise leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, to contribute effectively to this regional dynamic, he noted.
Mayara also expressed his confidence that this meeting will identify new priorities for economic cooperation between the two regions and explore the prospects for creating a common economic area more integrated.
In this context, he recalled the economic and geopolitical context in which this Forum is held, stressing that the multiple challenges facing the region “calls on us all to contribute to the construction of a fair and equitable cooperation capable of making a quality change in the global economic system and to establish a new model of partnership between the countries of the North and South, in order to best serve the interests of the peoples of the region and achieve their aspirations for a decent life and prosperity.
He also stressed the importance of mobilizing all energies for the emergence of a new generation of economic and social rights, strengthening food, health and energy sovereignty, and working to strengthen the mechanisms of international cooperation in this area, based on mutual respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States.
