Ambassador Mohamed Arrouchi, Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the AU and UNECA, who was speaking at a meeting of the AU PSC on the African Nuclear Energy Commission (AFCONE) and the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT), reaffirmed that the Kingdom remains committed to an active AFCONE far from any instrumentalization for political purposes, through a responsible involvement of the parties, a credible engagement with international organizations and partners, and through an optimal implementation of the Treaty of Pelindaba, in particular for the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
As a unique organization in the field of non-proliferation and nuclear disarmament, the CTBT is of paramount importance in monitoring the proliferation of weapons, which poses a real threat to international peace and security, said Arrouchi
Morocco, party to all international instruments on disarmament and nuclear non-proliferation, was among the first countries to commit to an irreversible ban on nuclear testing through a universal and effectively verifiable Treaty, noted the Moroccan diplomat.
