Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity Holds Vast Medical-Surgical Campaign in Midelt

Rabat – The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity closed its 2022 program of local medical campaigns with the organization, from December 13 to 16, of a major medical-surgical caravan for the benefit of the population of the province of Midelt.

This solidarity initiative has been programmed, in conjunction with the Provincial Delegation of Health and Social Protection and the local authorities, to respond to the pressing need to treat cataract cases (poor patients and/or on the waiting list), and to provide free general and specialized medical services to the rural families of Boumia and neighboring communes, the Foundation indicates in a statement.

The intervention mechanism of this campaign (December 13-16), which focused on the two aspects of cataract surgery and multidisciplinary care services, was deployed at two sites: the Hassan II Provincial Hospital in Midelt, which hosted cataract operations, and Boumia (45 km from Midelt), where the caravan dedicated to consultations and multidisciplinary care was set up.

The campaign made it possible to treat 186 cataract cases (including 97 women) and 430 ophthalmological consultations at hospital level, as well as 10,650 people, including 6,390 women, who benefited from specialized examinations (pediatrics, rheumatology, pulmonology, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology, cardiology, gastrology and gynecology), radiological examinations, biological check-ups and the provision of medicines in the multidisciplinary caravan in Boumia, the communiqué specifies.

It was carried out with the help of the Provincial Delegation of Health and Social Protection of Midelt, the Hassan II Provincial Hospital of Midelt, the Hassan II University Hospital of Fez, partner medical associations (Association of Moroccan Ophthalmologists without Borders – ASMOS, Association of Al Ismaila Doctors of Meknes) and the Mohammed VI National Center for the Disabled of Salé, which was responsible for the screening and fitting of devices for people with physical disabilities.

The Foundation thanks all the assistants, as well as the team of doctors (11 surgeons, 10 general practitioners and 25 specialists) and paramedical staff (16 nurses and technicians) for their mobilization and volunteer work.

In 2022, the Foundation conducted three major medical and surgical campaigns in the provinces of Tan Tan, Jerada and Midelt. These campaigns benefited 24,817 people, including 16,863 women. They enabled 550 surgeries, including 472 cataract surgeries, and 35,382 medical procedures (check-ups and general and specialized medical care).

It also supported 19 medical caravans carried out by medical associations (partners of the Foundation) throughout the country, benefiting 14,682 people (24,920 medical procedures), according to the same source.
