Thus, Morocco was brilliantly elected, on October 11, 2022, as a member of the Human Rights Council for the period 2023-2025, with an overwhelming majority of 178 votes.
This success is a clear sign of the credibility of the institutional and legislative reforms launched by HM King Mohammed VI for the protection, respect and promotion of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
Moreover, this third mandate crowns the constructive action of the Kingdom, a founding member of the Human Rights Council, to strengthen the role of the Council, in particular its leading role in the establishment of its flagship mechanism, the Universal Periodic Review.
In the same vein, the Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Morocco in Geneva, Omar Zniber, has been designated as co-facilitator of the process of strengthening and optimizing the Universal Periodic Review under the 4th cycle, which began in November 2022.
In addition, Morocco has been designated as a member representing the African Group in the Human Rights Council Advisory Group for the year 2022.
Furthermore, the Kingdom was re-elected on June 6, 2022, for a third consecutive term (2023-2027) as a member of the Committee on the Rights of the Child, in the person of Hynd Ayoubi Idrissi. Competing with thirteen other candidates for the nine vacant seats on the Committee, Ayoubi Idrissi was elected in the first round with 137 votes, thanks to a campaign that mobilized the entire diplomatic apparatus of Morocco.
The Kingdom of Morocco was also elected to the Executive Committee of the Community of Democracies, for the period 2022-2024, on September 15, 2022. This election confirms the Kingdom’s democratic choices and its constant and irreversible commitment, within the framework of the Royal Project for a modern and democratic society, to the promotion and protection of freedoms, the strengthening of democratic institutions, and the expansion of political participation.
These successes testify to the credibility of the Kingdom’s efforts to protect, respect and promote human rights, and thus confirm Morocco’s unwavering commitment, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, to the universal values of equality between men and women, pluralism, moderation, tolerance, peaceful coexistence and dialogue between civilizations and cultures.
Moroccan diplomacy will remain, in accordance with the Royal Highest Directions, fully committed to the pursuit of the dynamics of strengthening Morocco’s presence in the multilateral system.
The entire Moroccan diplomatic apparatus, in coordination with the Departments concerned, will remain mobilized to promote Morocco’s action in favor of an action-oriented and results-based multilateralism, in the service of international peace and security, sustainable development, and the promotion and protection of human rights.
