Rabat – “Le Bleu du Caftan” (The Blue of the Caftan), by director Maryam Touzani, has been shortlisted for the 95th Oscar Awards, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today, releasing the list of films nominated for the 2023 Oscars.

It is the only Arab and African film shortlisted this year in the “International Feature Film” category of the prestigious Oscar competition, which will be held on March 12, 2023 in Hollywood.

Last September, the film was chosen by a committee of Moroccan film professionals to represent the Kingdom at the Oscars.

“Le Bleu du Caftan” tells the story of Halim and Mina, a couple running a caftan store in the medina of Salé, who are joined by Youssef, a young apprentice who shares with his boss, Halim, the same sincere passion for sewing. The film is about transmission, tradition and love.
