Fire in Mohammedia: Storage Infrastructure and Adjoining Warehouses Were Not Affected (Ministry)

Rabat – The storage infrastructure as well as the adjoining warehouses were not affected by the fire that occurred on Thursday evening in Mohammedia, said Friday the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development.

In a statement issued to enlighten the national public opinion following the fire that occurred in a parking lot of gas distribution tankers, at the Zone “La Falaise” in Mohammedia, Thursday around 6:45 p.m., the ministry said that the fire broke out in a first tanker truck of propane gas at the parking lot, and not in the storage depot and then spread to 4 other tankers.

“The material damage involved mainly the fire of five tankers, in addition to two passenger cars and some damage to the parking lot of tankers,” said the department.

The fire was extinguished and controlled Thursday around 9 p.m, after the intervention of local authorities and civil protection, and no loss of life was deplored, noted the same source.

The ministry added that a joint prefectural committee, consisting of representatives of local authorities and ministerial departments concerned, has been set up to investigate the incident, assess the damage and take the necessary decisions.
