Rabat – The president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, said Thursday in Rabat that the specifications related to the organization of continental and international sports events stipulate that the host country must fully facilitate the arrival and participation of the teams taking part in the competition.

Lekjaa, who was answering questions from journalists at a press briefing held after the Council of Government, referred to the unanimous decision of the Board of the Federation regarding the participation of local players in the African Nations Championship (CHAN), hosted by Algeria between January 13 and February 4, 2023, and which will take place only if the national team goes to Constantine via a direct flight from Rabat.

The president of FRMF indicated, to this effect, that a decision will be taken on the participation in the CHAN, based on the response of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to the request of the Federation.

Contrary to what had been reported in the last 24 hours, “it was not requested to the host country to provide a special flight for the national team, but rather to authorize Royal Air Maroc (RAM), the official carrier of national teams, to land on January 10 at about 2:45 a.m. at the airport of Constantine, which will host the games of the national squad,” said Lekjaa during this joint press briefing with Minister Delegate for Relations with Parliament, Government Spokesman, Mustapha Baïtas.
