Second Conference of Heads of State and Government of Climate Commission for Sahel Kicks Off with Morocco’s Participation

Addis Ababa – The second conference of Heads of State and Government of the Climate Commission for the Sahel Region kicked off, Friday at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, with the participation of the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, who represents HM King Mohammed VI.

This 2nd Conference of Heads of State and Government will proceed during this session to the consideration and adoption of the final report of the 5th ministerial meeting and items relating to the additional protocol establishing the Climate Commission for the Sahel region.

The conference will also consider the convention establishing the Sahel Climate Fund, the modalities of contributions from Member States for the first capitalization of the Sahel Climate Fund (SCF) as well as for the functioning of the Executive Secretariat of the Commission, the establishment of a panel of Heads of State, in support of the Chairman of the Commission, within the framework of strengthening advocacy for operationalizing the Climate Commission for the Sahel region and designating personalities as ambassadors of the Climate Commission for the Sahel region for advocacy and resource mobilization for the financing of programmed actions.
