El Jadida Hosts Study Day on Morocco-Switzerland Relations

El Jadida – El Jadida’s Chouaib Doukkali University (UCD) hosted a study day on the Morocco-Switzerland relations in the presence of Swiss Ambassador to Morocco Guillaume Scheurer, where Switzerland’s experience in the region of El Jadida was highlighted.

Scheurer, after presenting a detailed picture of the history of the Swiss Confederation, welcomed the “age-old” relations that bind Morocco to Switzerland and hoped that they would continue to be strengthened, particularly in the fields of migration, sustainable development, education and new technologies.

The Swiss diplomat underlined “the multiple interests that Switzerland has in Morocco, whether in the field of education, the economy or partnership.”

He further highlighted the “dynamism” of economic relations and cooperation between the two friendly countries and welcomed the presence of many Swiss companies in Morocco, as well as university partnerships, various economic cooperation programs and the establishment of a Swiss chamber of commerce in Morocco.

Morocco “undoubtedly offers several advantages for Swiss investors, who can take advantage of the Kingdom’s ideal geographical location as a continental trading platform in Africa,” said the ambassador, highlighting the “strong potential for improvement” in bilateral trade.

For his part, the President of the UCD, Yahya Boughaleb, returned to the centuries-old relations between the two countries, recalling that in 2021, the two parties will celebrate the centenary of the Swiss diplomatic presence in the Kingdom.

In addition, Boughaleb recalled that the UCD has approved more than 80 partnership agreements with different countries in the world, most of them with countries in Europe, including Switzerland, adding that the measures taken in this context are both training and research.

Among the agreements signed with Swiss universities, the President of UCD cited those ratified with Fribourg and Lausanne, noting that these relationships are expected to develop “to strengthen ties and define more projects of action and cooperation.
