Union of Comoros Assumes AU Rotating Chairmanship

Addis Ababa – The Union of Comoros will take over the rotating chairmanship of the African Union (AU) from Saturday.

During the opening ceremony of the 36th African Union Ordinary Summit held in Addis Ababa, the President of the Union of Comoros, Azali Assoumani, received the attributes of power (flag and gavel) and thus becomes the new current Chairman of the pan-African organization for a one-year term.

President of the Union of the Comoros takes over from President of the Republic of Senegal, Macky Sall, elected for the period 2022-2023.

By allowing the Union of Comoros to lead the African continent “our organization has just proved to the world, its belief that all countries have the same rights and enjoy the same freedoms,” said the new president of the pan-African organization.
