Alexandria Short Film Festival: Moroccan Movie ‘Sharaa’ Wins ‘Golden Hypatia’

Cairo – The Moroccan film “Sharaa”, by director Hussein Hanin, won the “Golden Hypatia” Award at the 9th Alexandria Short Film Festival.

The short film (19 minutes), which was screened for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa, tells the story of “Assou” a man in his 40s who loves his wife and daughter, but is faced with difficult dilemmas.

In the category of animated films, the jury of the festival rewarded the Moroccan Sofia Khayyari for her film “Shadow of the butterflies”, which is a co-production between Morocco, France and Qatar.

In this short film (9 minutes), a sad woman slowly loses herself in her daydreams within a mysterious forest while looking at butterflies (symbol of memories and hope in the film). A mixture of sadness, nostalgia, desire and hope overwhelms her.
