This delegation is currently on a working visit to Morocco in order to consolidate ties of friendship and fruitful cooperation between the Kingdom and the components of the U.S. legislative institution.
The Head of Government reiterated during this meeting the consideration of the Kingdom of Morocco for the position of the United States of America towards the national cause, after the recognition by the United States in December 2020 of the sovereignty of the Kingdom over the Moroccan Sahara and the decision to open a consulate in Dakhla.
This position was confirmed by Assistant Secretary of State Wendy Sherman during her visit to Morocco in March 2022, who reiterated the support of the United States to the autonomy plan of Morocco, considered as a serious, credible and realistic solution, said a statement from the department of the Head of Government.
The Head of Government also welcomed the fruitful partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Millennium Challenge Corporation, as illustrated by the success of the Millennium Challenge Account-Morocco program, in its compacts I and II, which are part of the development priorities set by the government in accordance with the High Directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the statement continued.
This meeting was also an opportunity to highlight the particular dynamics that know, in recent years, the age-old friendly relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America, whose diplomatic ties date back to the signing in 1787 of the treaty of friendship between the two countries, the same source said.
It further noted that the two partner countries are also linked since 2012 by a Strategic Partnership, based on a regular and diversified political dialogue, structured economic relations framed by the Moroccan-American Free Trade Agreement, as well as a set of agreements and cooperation programs covering the cultural, scientific, security and other areas.
The Head of Government and the members of the U.S. Congressional delegation have also reviewed a set of existing cooperation programs between the two countries in various fields and discussed ways to expand them, stressing the common desire to strengthen this dynamic through the contribution of the active forces in both countries, concluded the statement.
