E-Commerce: 28.1 Mln Transactions for MAD 9.6 Bln in 2022 – CMI

Casablanca – Merchant sites and billers’ sites affiliated to the CMI have carried out 28.1 million online payment transactions via Moroccan and foreign bank cards for a total of 9.6 billion dirhams in 2022, up 35.6% in number and 24.3% in amount compared to 2021, according to the Interbank Electronic Money Center (CMI).

The online payment activity of Moroccan cards has increased by 34.4% in number of transactions to 26.8 million and by 19% in amount to 8.6 billion dirhams in 2022, says the CMI in its recent report on the electronic banking activity in Morocco.

For foreign cards, the activity of online payments has increased by 63.8% in number of transactions, to 1.3 million transactions, and 110.3% in amount, to 940.4 million dirhams during the past year, says the same source.

The activity remains very strongly dominated by Moroccan cards to the tune of 95.4% in number of transactions and 90.2% in amount, notes the CMI.
