Cattle Imported from Brazil Are Among Best Breeds Marketed Worldwide – Minister

Rabat – Cattle imported from Brazil to Morocco are among the best breeds marketed worldwide, the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fishing, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Mohamed Sadiki, said Wednesday at the Maroc Radar Forum.

In response to questions from journalists at the MAP Forum organized under the theme: “Generation Green, a strategy for Morocco’s food security”, Sadiki explained that it is the Brazilian cattle breed “Nélore”, which is one of the best breeds in the world.

He also stressed that the measure of importing cattle aims primarily to ensure a normal supply of the domestic market and the stability of prices of red meat for consumers.

In the same vein, the Minister noted that preserving price stability of red meat requires the protection of domestic livestock for slaughter, through the use of imports.

Referring to the quality of imported cattle, the minister said they have been subjected to a rigorous control process imposed by the National Food Safety Office (ONSSA), adding that this breed is of high quality and has excellent characteristics.

In addition, Sadiki said that Brazil exports nearly one million head of cattle per year, and nearly 2.4 million of meat.

The MAP Forum has become a platform for debate on current political, economic, cultural and social issues, and brings together representatives of public authorities and personalities from various backgrounds, as well as media representatives.
