Province of Chefchaouen: Fire in ‘Akemsane’ Forest Controlled

Chefchaouen – The fire that broke out Tuesday in the forest “Akemsane” in the commune of Bab Berred (Chefchaouen province), has been brought under control thanks to the efforts made by firefighting teams.

The efforts of firefighting teams over the past four days, supported by Canadair aircraft that have conducted more than 100 sorties, have brought the fire under control, said the regional director of the Agency of Water and Forests, Ahmed Hakam, in a statement to MAP.

According to a preliminary assessment, nearly 295 hectares of forest cover, consisting mainly of cork oaks and other plant varieties, were damaged, he said, noting that the intervention teams are still deployed at the site to fully contain the fire.

The fire, which broke out last Thursday evening, coincided with adverse weather conditions, including winds at speeds exceeding 70 km/h especially during the first three days, which has complicated the task of firefighting teams and led to the spread of the fire area, he added, stressing that the fire has not caused any injuries or casualties, and has not caused damage to private property.
