Tangier: Judicial Investigation Launched to Identify Transnational Criminal Network Involved in Cocaine Trafficking Attempt

Tangier – The prefectural service of the Tangier judicial police opened a judicial investigation, Thursday, under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office, to identify a transnational criminal network involved in an attempt to traffic large shipments of cocaine through maritime containers, a security source said.

According to preliminary data from the investigation, a joint operation conducted between the Security services and Customs at the Tanger Med port resulted in the seizure of a refrigerated shipping container from Ecuador and bound for Spain, suspected of being used to conceal a significant amount of cocaine among a fish shipment, said the same source.

The inspection procedures have allowed to seize the cargo of cocaine carefully packed in the bowels of tuna, adding that the process of extraction of this cargo is still underway before submitting it to the final weighing operation.

The research and investigations being conducted under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office aims to unmask and identify all members of this international criminal network, whether in the country of origin or final destination, in coordination with the National Central Bureaus under the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), the same source concluded.
