Morocco’s Airports: Over 5.9 M Passengers in Q1-2023 (ONDA)

Casablanca – Morocco’s airports recorded, during the first quarter of 2023, a commercial traffic volume of 5,912,986 passengers and 46,313 airport movements, that is to say an evolution of the passenger traffic of 5% and a recovery rate of aircraft movements of 96%, compared to the same period of the year 2019, according to the National Office of Airports (ONDA).

The Casablanca Mohammed V airport has welcomed during this quarter 2,009,920 passengers via 17,480 flights, or recovery rates, respectively 90% and 85%, compared to the same period of 2019, ONDA said in a statement, stressing that several airports have recorded double-digit growth rates compared to the same period of 2019.

These are the airports of Tangier (42%), Oujda (38%), Agadir (14%), Nador (14%) and Marrakech (13%), said the same source, adding that other airports have recorded significant rates of recovery as Casablanca Mohammed V (90%), Ouarzazate (88%), Dakhla (86%) and Al Hoceima (86%).

Regarding domestic air traffic, it has recorded during the first quarter, 566,792 passengers, with a recovery rate of 85% compared to the same period of 2019.

International air traffic, meanwhile, recorded 5,346,194 passengers, up 8% compared to the same period of 2019.

The European market, which accounts for more than 83% of international traffic, recorded a growth rate of 12% compared to Q1-2019. That of North America saw a growth rate of 32%.

As for the Middle and Far East market, it recorded a 3% increase compared to the same period of 2019.

Air freight recorded 18,370 tons, compared to 22,653 tons the same period in 2019, a recovery rate of 81%.
